Discovering My Passion for Communication

From Shyness to Spotlight: My Journey as an Orator

Let me share a pivotal moment from my school days. Like many children, I was quite shy until an unexpected incident catalyzed change. In a classroom filled with history lessons under the stern gaze of Sister Bessi, I often found my mind wandering to favorite movie scenes, sharing knowing glances with my friend Maya to escape the dullness

Then, a moment of inspiration struck, everytQhing changed, much like flowers turning toward the sun. One day, my sister Sinthana strolled by the window, her charm radiating as her friends followed her, transforming the moment into what can only be described as a “Madhuri Dixit moment.” It was a revelation: How could one person hold such captivating energy? Maya's reply resonated: “It’s her communication! It’s essential!”
That revelation illuminated my path. I recognized that to be seen and heard among my peers, I needed to enhance my communication skills. I vowed to become a captivating speaker, transforming my anxiety into an art form while nurturing my personal and professional growth.

A significant turning point came during a school literature competition. The elocution contest was my opportunity to shine. Choosing to present in my native language, I immersed myself in researching the topic “Laughter is the Best Medicine.” With my mother's unwavering support, I dedicated hours to perfecting my script.

When the moment arrived, and I stepped onto that grand stage, I breathed life into my words. That experience marked the ignition of my lifelong passion for effective communication.

The Milestone: My First Stand in the Spotlight

My Academic Triumphs

I proudly graduated as a Gold Medalist, recognized by the Tamil Nadu Governor—a testament to passion and perseverance. My journey of communication continued as I wrapped my head more around my studies, culminating in becoming a University Topper.

My Corporate Journey

As I joined the corporate world, I eagerly awaited my own “Madhuri Dixit moment.” I participated in multiple contests, striving to create winning presentations that would leave a lasting impression. Throughout this journey, I garnered awards that validated my efforts and fueled my passion for effective communication.

Embracing My Leadership Journey:

My journey extends beyond communication; it intertwines with leadership. Receiving feedback during a performance appraisal that I was the "most sought-after manager to work with" was a profound realization. My involvement in Toastmasters had significantly influenced my transformational leadership style.

As President of my Toastmasters Club, I learned that true leadership in a collaborative environment revolves around serving rather than commanding. I focused on listening, supporting, and empowering my teammates, ensuring they always felt valued and heard.

Becoming a Mentor: The Heart of My Mission

"When I first became a mentor in Toastmasters, I discovered the transformative value of mentoring. It’s not just about enhancing skills; it’s about unlocking potential in both my mentee and myself."

Motivated by this experience, I began mentoring my team at work. This transition from a Manager to a Mentor has been profoundly rewarding. Imagine the difference in response: a Manager critiquing a mistake compared to a Mentor encouraging growth.

Embracing the mentor mindset fostered an environment of trust where my team felt safe to make mistakes, learn, and thrive—laying the groundwork for a high-performing team culture.

Through continual mentorship, I have found my passion for coaching and helping others soar.

Advocacy for Women in Leadership

As I progressed in my career, I realized the importance of advocating for women in leadership roles. I am deeply committed to inspiring women to step into their power and lead with purpose. By hosting workshops and mentoring aspiring women leaders, I strive to create a supportive environment where women can thrive and fulfill their potential.

I believe that empowering women to lead not only enriches organizations but also fosters a more equitable society. Together, we can break barriers and pave the way for future generations of women to rise confidently and lead purposeful lives.
